People call them “katulong,” “kasambahay,” or “manang” but often times, they are known to us as “Yaya.”

“Yayas” play a significant role to a family’s life because they are the first ones who are ready to help and to take care of us 24/7.

Mel Tiangco interviews Yaya Nieves Impin with her three generations of loving family - Jake, Katherine and Abigael.

But for some families, their “yayas” are not just nannies, they are indeed part of the family. Like a mother who cares deeply for every member of the family.

And for this coming Mother’s day, Magpakailanman offers a heartwarming and true story of “Yaya” Nievas Impin. She has been the official “Yaya” of a family for three generations – Abigael, Katherine and Jake. But for her household, “Yaya V,” as she is fondly called, is more than just a helper or a caretaker. She is part of their family. It is not essential if she do not share the same blood with them. For Abigael, Katherine and Jake, “Yaya V” has always been their sister, mother and grandmother.

The story is written by Senedy Que and researched by yours truly, Karen P. Lustica.
